This Sandberg California JM4 was hand made in Germany in 2012 and is in great condition, particularly considering it is 12 years old.
Sandberg instruments are incredible quality – handmade in Germany, super resonant and tight. This one is the JM4, which is the predecessor to their TM4, and has a more Jazz Bass body shape than the newer ones, which is really nice. It has a Sandberg Jazz Bass style pickup at the neck and a Sandberg Musicman style humbucker pickup in the bridge position. It can be played active or passive and the Musicman pickup can be switched to single coil to provide a huge range of tones. In active mode controls are volume, pickup mix, bass boost and cut, and treble boost and cut. In passive mode the treble control acts as a passive tone control.
The bass has one very minor mark on the headstock as can be seen in the photo. Otherwise, condition is really great and it has a beautiful ash finish. The neck is a dream to play, silky smooth and fast. Weight is 4.21 kgs (9 lbs 5 oz) and it’s nicely balanced on a strap. It has been recently strung with 45 – 130 DR Sunbeam strings and the action is nice and low, with no fret buzz.
