Vintage 1984 Tokai Hard Puncher Bass Left Hand – LIGHTWEIGHT 8lbs 5oz RARE

Beautiful original left-handed version of this classic bass built in Japan around 1984. Recently fully cleaned and set up with quality flat wound strings. It’s not often a left-handed version of these excellent vintage basses come up for sale. I bought this as it looked so nice, though I play right handed. It was in pretty poor condition when I got it. I stripped it down completely, dismantling the machine heads, and cleaned every part. I filed the fret ends, polished the frets, cleaned the electronics and everything else, then oiled the fretboard. Then gave it a nice low action set up - the result is a bass that looks and plays very well, is very lightweight and sounds awesome - just like a good Precision Bass should. Well worth all the effort!

This bass is in very good condition, neck and frets are great. Cosmetically there are marks and nicks about the body, general wear expected of a bass this age that has been played and enjoyed. Everything looks original to me, including the pickup and wiring as can be seen in the photos. The pickup sounds punchy and full, exactly as a P-bass should.

This is a light bass at 8lbs 5 oz and has had a nice set up and fitted with new flat wound strings. It has a comfortable C-shaped neck profile and is very nice to play. Frets are all in great condition and it has a nice low action.

The Tokai Hard Puncher models are highly regarded among players and collectors. Many feel that the quality of these basses equal and often exceed the build quality of American P-Basses from this era. The same was said of the Fenders made in Japan at that time. Fender Custom Shop quality for a fraction of the price – and this bass is an actual vintage instrument.
