TOKAI HARD PUNCHER BASS VINTAGE 1980 SPAGHETTI LOGO MADE IN JAPAN
Vintage 1980 Tokai Hard Puncher Bass – Spaghetti Logo Black
Beautiful original classic bass built in Japan in 1980 and, according to Tokai catalogues from the early 1980s, based on1977Fender Precision Bass. Recently fully cleaned and set up with quality D’Addario flat wound strings. This one has the revered spaghetti logo, which was the original ‘lawsuit’ logo that closely resembled the Fender logo.
This bass is in very good condition, neck and frets are great. Cosmetically there are marks and nicks about the body, general wear expected of a bass this age that has been played and enjoyed – it even has an original burn mark on the headstock where someone has stored their lighted cigarette as they were playing!
I believe this to be a PB40-BBR based on 1977 P-bass and has been fitted with a Gotoh high mass bridge and Gotoh Large Nickel Bass Tuners. I have also fitted a Fender Custom Shop pickup which sounds punchy and full, exactly as a P-bass should.
Weight is a comfortable 9bs 4oz (4.2kg)and has had a really good set up, low action and fitted with D’Addario flat wound strings (45-105). It has a comfortable C-shaped neck profile and is very nice to play. Frets are all in great condition and it has a really nice action. Sound is punchy and powerful as you would expect from a quality Tokai Hard Puncher.
The Tokai Hard Puncher models are highly regarded among players and collectors. Many feel that the quality of these basses equal and often exceed the build quality of American P-Basses from this era. The same was said of the Fenders made in Japan at that time – and, at 45 years old, this bass is an actual vintage instrument.

1960 MODEL PB70 YSR ¥ 70000 Expected new item PB70 that appeared in the old dish model series. The symbol of the 1960 model, the flat rosewood fingerboard neck is built into the alder body. The specifications of the original version, such as the tortoise shell type pick guard, spiral bridge, and old reversible pegs, have been faithfully reproduced. As with the original material, the newly developed pickup-PB Vintage and ceramic capacitors that use "thread knitting shielded wire" inherit the essence of the old. We promise the best play performance.
1977 MODEL PB50-MB ¥ 50,000 Metallic blue PB50 that supports wild stage actions. It is a high cost performance model that forms the core of the middle class. The specs inherit PB48, and the special metallic color gives off a distinctive personality. A topical work that I would like to recommend to live musicians.
1977 MODEL PB48YS ¥ 48000 A slim maple 1-piece neck that creates a dynamic bass running. The tight and chewy deep bass of the split type pickup is worthy of the name of a hard puncher. The total balance and almighty expressiveness are the highest peaks of the middle class bass.
1977 MODEL PB40-BBR ¥ 40000 Super heavyweight powerful sound, unrivaled playability. Special hardware is more like a professional type than a beginner bass. A topical masterpiece that hits the born rockin' bassist in pursuit of high cost performance.
(Caution) Please note that the pickguard mounted on the 3 models of PB40 / 48/60 / may differ from the one in the photo depending on the lot. Either [White / Black / White 3 Ply] or [Black / White / Black 3 Ply] will be mounted.
